ABOUT MCCORKLEN
BLACK-OWNED AMERICAN FASHION HOUSE
Story of a Boy — Be Who You Wanna Be.
OUR HISTORY, STORY, AND LEGACY
BACKSTORY
Israel McCorkle originally Founded "McCorklen" at 16 years old, way before the final decision of the fashion brand being named McCorklen. Now under McCorkle Group, a conglomerate that Israel McCorkle founded to merge his companies together.
The company name went through two transformations before becoming McCorklen. The first name honored the founder directly—"Israel McCorkle," his full namesake. The second simplified it to just his last name, "McCorkle." But as that grew too common and was already taken by other businesses, he envisioned an unforgettable twist: adding a bold “N” to his distinguished surname, birthing the new name “McCorklen.”
Knowing that his last name wouldn't be used, Israel McCorkle set the brand name as close as he could to his last name for the legacy, and refused to name it something else more different than that.
As the first slogan was "Story of a boy" It eventually changed to "Story of a Boy — Be Who You Wanna Be." the slogan was fully made when Israel McCorkle finally figured out and accepted who he was as a person and his sexuality. As the story expanded, the slogan changed with it.
After the fashion brand was founded, as McCorklen’s first product, Israel McCorkle started designing and selling women's handbags locally, online, and in school, called “The Pill Bag.” The bag started to catch attention very quickly, as the young Fashion Designer and Entrepreneur was establishing his first business in his teenage years.
